July 25th we drove up to Canton for Aunt Lisa's Baby shower (on July 26th). As we approached Canton, the balloons were launching from the Football Hall of Fame. The pictures don't do the balloons justice.
It was a beautiful site with the setting sun shining on them.

Rebekah's lecture
Do you know anyone else who can talk this long about NOTHING??
BTW - I was nervous for Charlie just watching this!
Oak Island 2008
Our First Week (July 6-12)
These first few pictures are our first view of the ocean on this trip. It's the first time Alison or Charlie see and experience the ocean.
Nathaniel has had enough after USS North Carolina
On another day we went across to the penisula and saw Fort Fisher. Fort Fisher was a Confederate stronghold set-up to protect South Port and Cape Fear. Here we are on the boat. The kids looked out over the water.
Fort Fisher
Arrrggghhhh... will that be unleaded?
Nathaniel and Charlie relax at the house.
Alison borrowed Rebekah's grandma for the week.
Our second week at Oak Island (July 13-19)
Nathaniel waits for his very dirty pirate costume to be finished in the washer.
We went into South Port and had dinner right on the pier.
The next day we went to the NC maritime museum (aks pirate museum) and spent a good 2 hours here. It was a food (and free) time!
Not much difference, ehh?
Mary Read one of the few female pirates. She was as blood thirsty as the men!
Back at the beach!
Rebekah and Nathaniel make some friends!
Todd and I went into town for date night. We went on a "Haunted" tour.

Whittaker Family Reunion
We went to the reunion this year. Aunt Beulah is the only one left of her generation. She told me, "I got old..." when I asked her how she was. She said even a year after losing Clay it has not gotten easier.
I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people (as usual) even though there were only about 50 this year. It's hard to know what to say to people you only see once a year at the most. I was also distracted and preoccupied by the fact that we were en-route to the beach.
We stayed until about 5:00 pm and then left for our hotel half-way to Oak Island, NC.
